Asian Games: Day of golden expectations for Malaysia

NAGOYA: The Malaysian contingent will be going for golds at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games today in squash and track cycling, alongside crucial knockout encounters across a number of other sports.

In squash, Malaysia will face Hong Kong in the women's team final while the men's squad will take on Pakistan for gold.

In track cycling, Azizulhasni Awang and Shah Firdaus Sahrom will compete in the men's keirin, their favoured discipline.

Nur Alyssa Farid and Izzah Izzati Asri are also in the business end of the women's individual sprint, beginning with the quarter-finals in the morning.

In jiu-jitsu, Adam Akasyah opens his campaign in the men's -77kg round of 32 against Jordan's Al-Kuzai Alaaldin.

In sailing, Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy (men's dinghy final races one and two) and Nur Shazrin Mohd Latif (women's dinghy final races one and two) lead the Malaysian fleet at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor.

They are joined by Juni Karimah Noor Jamali-Fauzi Kaman Shah (mixed dinghy, races nine and 10), Iqbal Nazham Musmuliadi-Adam Aierell Mohd Azizol (boys' skiff, races nine–12), Danyal Marczqui Rahmat Haron Muzaffa-Nur Aina Norhazram (youth mixed dinghy, races nine and 10), Aina Zulaikha Azizul Rahman-Nor Izniey Humaira Mohd Azri (girls' skiff, races nine–12), Aiman Aqeel Mohd Firdaus (boys' dinghy, races eight–10), and Nur Hafizanah Zailan (girls' dinghy, races eight–10).

In padel, Aidan Yunus and Christian Didier Chin face Iran's Shah Farsad and Jamshidi in the men's pair semi-finals.

In taekwondo kyorugi, Nadia Aina Syazwani Ishak takes on Thailand's Poolkerd Patchralkan in the women's under-49kg round of 16.

In field hockey, the national women's team face Thailand in the 5th-6th placing match.

In rugby sevens, the men's squad will tackle Uzbekistan while the women play India in their final group matches.

In sepak takraw, the women's quadrant team will aim for a spot in the semi-finals.

In rhythmic gymnastics, Bernice See, Carol Na, Low Ee Shuen, Maia Ong, and Victoria Manalang will feature in the group all-around qualification.
