CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A 56-year-old man tagged as Northern Mindanao’s second most wanted fugitive was captured in Zamboanga del Norte over the weekend, after months in hiding, police said Tuesday.

In a statement, the Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) identified the suspect as alias “RK,” a resident of Barangay Diguan in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental. He was arrested last Friday, Oct. 16, by joint police forces in Barangay San Pedro, Dapitan City, where he had sought refuge following a murder incident in Ozamiz City in June 2026.

The suspect was apprehended on a non-bailable arrest warrant for murder issued on Sept. 30.

PRO-10 said the suspect is a former drug surrenderer who previously faced a separate murder charge that was dismissed in July 2011.

Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr., PRO-10 director, commended the arrest of the suspect.

“We will continue to pursue wanted persons, especially those facing serious criminal charges. No matter how long they evade arrest, our personnel will work to locate them and ensure that they are brought before the courts,” he said.

The suspect’s capture was the result of an intelligence-driven operation dubbed COPLAN “Sierra,” executed by the Ozamiz and Dapitan city police stations along with the regional and provincial mobile forces.

The suspect is currently detained at the Ozamiz City Police Station. /das
