Kanlaon Volcano emits ash, generating 200-meter plume; Alert Level 2 remains

The Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island had an ash emission on Sunday morning, generating a 200-m high plume, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The volcano emitted ash past 6 a.m.
PHIVOLCS shared a sped-up video of the event taken at 6:24 a.m. by the Canlaon City Observation Station (KVO-CC) IPCamera.
"Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano," PHIVOLCS said.
In its bulletin issued Sunday morning, PHIVOLCS said nine volcanic earthquakes occurred between 12 a.m. Saturday and 12 a.m. Sunday.
Moderate plumes rose up to 600 meters tall on Saturday before drifting southward.
PHIVOLCS reminded the public that entry into the four-km radius Permanent Danger Zone should not be allowed.
Likewise, flying aircraft close to the volcano should be prohibited, it said.
At Alert Level 2, Kanlaon Volcano, which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, poses possible hazards such as:
- sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions
- precursory magmatic activity
