The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared a new family photo from Kate's Three Peaks Challenge to mark Mountain Rescue Awareness Day.

Posted to Instagram this morning, the image shows the Wales family and others following Kate's mountain-climbing expedition in June.

The princess completed the challenge of climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – within 24 hours.

She raised money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the hospital where she was treated for the disease.

Kate said she was undergoing cancer treatment in 2024 and that she was in remission at the start of this year.

In the latest photo from the challenge, the Waleses are seen at the foot of Snowdon with Catherine in the centre.

The caption, signed 'W & C', read: 'On Mountain Rescue Awareness Day, we send our heartfelt thanks to all those who volunteer their time and expertise to keep people safe in some of our most beautiful but challenging landscapes.

'Through our connection with this remarkable organisation, we have seen first-hand the dedication, professionalism and compassion that define their work.

The princess completed the gruelling endurance event, scaling three of the highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours, in June to spread her message about life during and after cancer

'Meeting local mountain rescue teams during the Three Peaks Challenge this summer was an opportunity to say thank you in person for the vital role they play in keeping walkers and climbers safe on the mountains all year round.

'We are incredibly proud to support the extraordinary volunteers who respond in all conditions, often at a moment’s notice, to help others when they need it most. To everyone across the mountain rescue community, thank you for your unwavering commitment, courage and service.'

In the picture Kate was joined by Prince William, whose hands are on the shoulders of the couple's youngest son, Prince Louis.

Princess Charlotte and Prince George, who started at Eton College last month, also smiled alongside their mother after she completed the challenge.

During her climb of Ben Nevis, Kate took time out to speak with an 11-year-old paraplegic boy whose father carried him up in his wheelchair.

Ted Haslam was pushed and carried by 15 friends and relatives including his father Pete as they scaled Britain's highest mountain.

Kate (wearing baseball cap) posed for a group photo next to Ted Haslam during the Ben Nevis climb

She later hosted Ted and fellow Three Peaks participants for a tea party at Windsor Castle

After approaching the boy, from Sutton Coldfield, the princess joked that it was 'not great weather', asking him: 'How are you doing, Ted? You're not too cold?'

Kate added: 'So many people are stood in their T-shirts! Why are they doing that?! Who's this, is that your lucky mascot? Has it got a name?'

One of Ted's team explained that it was a mascot for the charity Molly Ollys, which provided play equipment for the boy while he was being treated in hospital.

Kate then asked him: 'Have you been up here before?' Ted replied: 'Never, it's my first time.' And Kate said: 'Well it's such a shame you can't see any of the views.'

She added: 'I'm so impressed, really, you've made it to the second peak. Super, well done you. We'll be cheering you on. Hopefully we'll see you on Snowdon. Good luck.'

It was later revealed that Kate made a private donation to Ted's fundraising for Molly Ollys, writing on his JustGiving page: 'One of the real highlights of the Three Peaks Challenge was meeting inspiring people like you along the way. Huge congratulations to the entire team for raising money for such a wonderful cause. C.'

She later hosted Ted alongside other Three Peaks participants for a reception at Windsor Castle.
