Delivery rider's death reclassified as murder after gig incident in Melaka

MELAKA: Police have reclassified the death of a 21-year-old delivery rider, who was severely injured during a gig at a cafe here, as murder.
Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Halim Abas said the incident, which occurred last Saturday, was initially investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code before being reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He said the reclassification followed the victim's death on Oct 21, four days after suffering serious head injuries in the Oct 17 incident.
On the day of the incident, the victim was injured while at the cafe and taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment before being warded in the intensive care unit.
"However, the victim was pronounced dead at 3.53pm on Wednesday," he said in a statement today.
Halim said police have detained 10 people aged between 18 and 25 to assist in the investigation.
Police also found that the gig, held at a cafe in Kampung Jawa, had neither a police permit nor approval from the local authority.
"Police are still investigating the organisation of the event," he said.
The incident went viral on the social media platform Threads after the victim's death drew public attention to what happened during the gig.
It is understood that the incident occurred when the victim attempted a 'mosh' or spin kick during the music performance, but missed and fell, resulting in injuries.
