Varalaxmi Sarathkumar explains her firm decision after marriage

Many times, marriage raises issues regarding the future, but Varalaxmi Sarathkumar feels that having children must not be viewed as a duty. The actress, who has been part of several South Indian films, has opened up about her personal choice and the responsibility that comes with becoming a parent.

Her comments challenge the common belief that every married couple must eventually have children.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar says she does not want children

Speaking about her decision with behindwoods, Varalaxmi made it clear that she does not want to have children and said the choice has nothing to do with any health issue. “I have already made it clear that I do not want children. It is not because I cannot have children. It is because I do not want children. It is a clear and firm decision for me,” she said.

The actress also revealed that her husband, businessman and art gallerist Nicholai Sachdev, shares the same view.

Varalaxmi married Nicholai Sachdev in 2024 and said they are on the same page about the decision.

Varalaxmi on parenthood and the responsibility of raising a child

Varalaxmi also stressed that becoming a parent is a major responsibility and should not happen simply because society expects it. “Before having a child, you should ask yourself whether you are ready to take complete responsibility for raising that child.

If you are not ready for that responsibility, then deciding not to have children is better. I believe that is also a responsible parenting decision,” she explained.

Her comments put the focus on the emotional and practical commitment involved in bringing up a child rather than treating parenthood as a compulsory part of marriage.

Varalaxmi says Nikolai’s daughter and their pets are family

The actress also spoke about the family she already shares with Nicholai Sachdev. He has a daughter from his first marriage, and Varalaxmi said she treats her with the same affection she would give her child. She also considers the couple’s two dogs to be part of their family. “We have two puppies, and I raise them as my children,” she said. For Varalaxmi, family is therefore not defined by social expectations but by love, care, and responsibility.
