Weather Report: a mild, foggy start to the weekend

Friday, 2 October’s Weather Report shows a mild, mostly calm day across the country.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) describes most of the country as partly cloudy to cloudy, with isolated showers or thundershowers in parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, the Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
SAWS has no active severe weather warnings in place for today, aside from a fire danger warning affecting parts of the Northern Cape.
Gauteng sees a foggy, chilly start.
Johannesburg reaches a high of 21°C, climbing from a cold morning low of just 4°C.
Morning fog patches are expected in the south-west, otherwise it stays partly cloudy and cool.
WHERE TODAY’S SHOWERS AND FOG ARE SETTLING IN
Mpumalanga stays partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and rain in the Lowveld.
Morning fog patches are expected in places here too.
Limpopo turns cloudy in the south-western Bushveld.
North West enjoys a clear, mild day.
Mahikeng sees clear skies, reaching 21°C, with a low of 10°C, under a brisk north-easterly wind of 20 km/h.
The Free State sees a pleasant, mostly sunny day.
Bloemfontein stays partly cloudy, reaching around 23°C.
The Northern Cape carries today’s one genuine warning.
SAWS has issued a fire danger warning for parts of the province, worth taking seriously given how quickly dry conditions can turn dangerous this time of year.
WHY THE COAST IS SEEING SOME OF THE DAY’S MORE UNSETTLED WEATHER
The Western Cape sees a damp start.
Cape Town faces drizzle today, reaching 19°C, with a low of 14°C.
The Eastern Cape looks to be the wettest spot on the map today.
Gqeberha faces rain showers, climbing to a high of 23°C.
KwaZulu-Natal is today’s warmest province.
Durban reaches 26°C, with a low of 15°C, and a brisk north-easterly wind of 25 km/h. The province stays partly cloudy overall.
It’s a genuinely gentle way to start the first weekend of October, fog and drizzle in a few spots, but nothing severe anywhere today.
Worth keeping an eye on the Northern Cape’s fire danger warning if you’re in the area.
