PUTRAJAYA: A sombre atmosphere enveloped Pusara Negara in Presint 20 here today as former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad visited the grave of his late wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

Mahathir arrived at 11.05am and left 15 minutes later, accompanied by family members.

He appeared emotional and was seen shedding tears while praying at the grave and scattering rose petals.

Mahathir was reportedly on his way home from the National Heart Institute (IJN) after undergoing regular treatment.

His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, said the former prime minister was tired due to a lack of sleep following the death of his wife on Monday.
