Netflix has unveiled a collaboration with Spanish streamer Filmin, giving Netflix members in Spain access to a monthly selection of films and documentaries, curated by Filmin’s editorial team.

Starting Thursday, Netflix members in Spain will find the first collection, “October Mysteries,” available in its own section on the streaming service. The first selection is curated in time for Halloween season and includes the likes of David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds (Los sudarios) and Colin and Cameron Cairnes’ Late Night with the Devil (De noche con el diablo).

A new collection of 10 titles, licensed from and selected by Filmin, will be added to Netflix on the first day of every month, while the previous month’s collection will remain available to stream for a second month.

“This agreement gives titles already beloved on Filmin the chance to reach a wider audience, with monthly themes changing with the seasons, such as mystery for Halloween, or award-winning films around the Academy Awards,” the partners said. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

“We deeply admire Filmin’s commitment to film and documentaries,” said Diego Ávalos, Netflix’s vp of content for Spain, Portugal and Turkey. “They’ve built a very close relationship with a discerning, specialized audience, while at Netflix we work every day with the focus of entertaining the world’s largest and most diverse audience. That combination makes us perfect partners: together we can offer our audience even more films and documentaries to enjoy, handpicked by Filmin’s editorial team.”

“The fact that the world’s largest streaming service has taken notice of us represents enormous recognition of the nearly 20 years of work and love for cinema behind our project,” said Juan Carlos Tous, CEO and founder of Filmin. “Our goal is to bring the cinema we’re passionate about to the widest possible audience, and this alliance with Netflix gives us a unique opportunity to achieve that.”

Barcelona-based Filmin is a subscription streaming service that offers monthly and annual subscription plans and is known for its lineup of independent films.
