Apple TV's remake of a classic Robert De Niro movie has broken a streaming milestone, just two months after its riveting finale. Apple TV's original shows have been making a long-lasting impression on streaming over the last year. From the mind-bending sci-fi of Dark Matter season 2, to the sports-focused hilarity of Ted Lasso season 4, the studio's various ongoing shows have been performing extremely well for the platform. This diverse level of TV shows includes some of familiar properties, such as the Monsterverse spinoff show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

But there's another series that's managed to take streaming by storm, which has its origins in a 1991 movie starring Robert De Niro: Cape Fear. The TV remake, created by Nick Antosca, follows Max Cady (Javier Bardem), an ex-convict who sets his sights on revenge against his lawyer, Anna Bowden (Amy Adams) and her prosecutor husband, Tom (Patrick Wilson). The 10-episode miniseries primarily pulls from De Niro's movie of the same name, where he played the role of Max. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg also serve as executive producers on the series.

Now, data from September 15, 2026 confirms the psychological thriller has crossed a rare streaming milestone. According to a new report, Cape Fear has been on Apple TV's overall Top 10 in the United States for 100 days. This substantial achievement sees the series currently sitting at Number 9 on the platform, almost two months after the series finale aired. It's just above Brad Pitt's decorated F1 movie, and sits just under a handful of other Apple TV originals, including Your Friends & Neighbors and Lucky.

The series has also maintained a top spot in a handful of other countries around the world, including a Number 6 spot in Mauritius and a Number 5 spot in Guinea-Bissau. It's not a surprise the series has maintained its popularity, considering reviews for Cape Fear have been generally positive. The show is aided by Scorsese's involvement, having previously directed the 1991 version starring De Niro. Although the series is a very different beast, it still provides a dark revenge thriller that has clearly captivated audiences in the US, and the world.

Will There Be A Cape Fear Season 2?

As of writing, there are no plans for Cape Fear season 2. The series was planned to be a miniseries, meaning the 10 episodes that are currently available to watch on Apple TV encompass the entirety of the story. It also has a definitive conclusion that leaves no stone unturned in the overarching storyline. Although it's not getting a season 2, the show still stands on its own with the story made available, as is clarified by its ongoing success.

Even though there's not going to be a follow-up to the show, the Apple TV remake has proven that, despite the story having been told already, Cape Fear still leaves a lasting impression on audiences in the United States. There may not be an expectation for the show to continue, but the story it does tell is thrilling and powerful enough to have kept attention for months on the platform.
