Eskom announces 7-hour power outage in parts of Gauteng on Wednesday

Translate

Eskom has informed customers in Tsakane of an upcoming electricity supply interruption as part of planned maintenance work on the distribution network in the area.

The power utility confirmed that the outage will affect Tsakane Ext 9, Tsakane Ext 15, Rockville and Vergenoeg from 9:00 to 16:00 on Wednesday, 23 September.

According to Eskom, the seven-hour interruption is necessary to allow technical teams to carry out essential maintenance on the distribution power lines serving the affected suburbs. The utility said the work forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain the reliability of its electricity network across the Gauteng Cluster.

Safety Warning Issued To Households by Eskom

Eskom has urged all affected residents to exercise caution during the outage period, advising customers to treat all electrical appliances and connections as live at all times, even while supply is interrupted.

The utility explained that this precaution is necessary because power could be restored unexpectedly or fluctuate during maintenance work, posing a risk to anyone who assumes appliances are safe to handle.

Eskom also flagged that the planned maintenance could be delayed or cancelled if unforeseen circumstances arise. The utility included a disclaimer noting that, should circumstances beyond its control occur, the interruption may not proceed as communicated, meaning residents should treat the schedule as subject to change.

The power utility apologised for the inconvenience the outage may cause households and businesses in the affected areas, thanking customers in advance for their cooperation during the maintenance window.

How To Report Issues Or Get Updates

Eskom has provided several channels for customers who want to report problems or check on the status of their electricity supply during and after the outage.

Residents can download the “MyEskom Customer” self-help app for real-time updates, or send a WhatsApp message to 0860037566 for assistance. Customers can also dial the USSD code *120*37566# to access services without needing data or airtime.

For further support, Eskom’s Alfred chatbot is accessible via Alfred.Eskom.co.za/chatroom, while bill-related queries can be resolved online at csonline.Eskom.co.za between 08:00 and 16:00 on weekdays.
