Indonesia to restore fire-damaged National Museum with Danantara

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Culture is partnering with the Danantara Indonesia Trust to accelerate the restoration and revitalization of the National Museum of Indonesia following a fire that damaged parts of the complex.

"We will repair the two buildings, the structures that were damaged by the fire. Hopefully, we can realize this in the near future," Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said during the inauguration of the Danantara Library at the National Museum in Jakarta on Friday.

Fadli said he hoped the revitalization could be expedited because the funding would not rely on the State Budget (APBN).

He said he aimed for repair work on the fire-damaged buildings to begin this year, with the National Museum eventually featuring larger exhibition spaces and multipurpose rooms.

In addition to repairing the buildings, Fadli said restoration and revitalization efforts would also cover the museum's gold collection affected by the fire. He expressed hope that the restoration and revitalization of the National Museum could be completed next year, allowing the entire museum complex to be fully restored by 2028, when it marks its 250th anniversary.

The Ministry of Culture, through the Museum and Cultural Heritage Agency, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Danantara Indonesia Trust regarding the revitalization of the National Museum of Indonesia.

Under the agreement, the Museum and Cultural Heritage Agency and Danantara Indonesia Trust will develop the National Museum's library into a cultural knowledge and research hub and restore the fire-damaged buildings so they can fully function as public cultural spaces.

Nuraini Razak, chairperson of the Danantara Indonesia Trust, said the collaboration with the Museum and Cultural Heritage Agency was aimed at strengthening public access to knowledge about arts and culture and creating more open learning spaces for the community.

Meanwhile, Danantara Chief Executive Officer and Patron of the Danantara Indonesia Trust Rosan Roeslani said all Danantara Indonesia Trust programs were aimed at generating sustainable and lasting social impact for the Indonesian people.
