Coronation Street star Olivia Frances Brown promises "comeuppance" in Jodie story

Coronation Street's Olivia Frances Brown has teased that someone is about to get their "comeuppance" when the long-running feud between Jodie Ramsey and her half-sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) finally erupts next week, in scenes that climax with a gunshot ringing out across the cobbles.

Frances Brown, who plays Jodie, confirmed the showdown would reach a dramatic peak but kept the outcome firmly under wraps. "It's definitely been a long time coming for it to blow up between Jodie and Shona," she said. "Let's just say... somebody is about to get their comeuppance and you'll just need to watch to find out!"

Jodie has spent months plotting to replace Shona in both her family and her marriage to David Platt, gaslighting her sister and manipulating those around her, as Jodie seeks revenge for the time Shona ran away from home as a teenager, leaving Jodie to deal with their dad alone.

When their feud finally reaches its breaking point, one of the sisters is pushed to their limit and a gunshot rings out, with the identity of the person shot, and Jodie's fate afterwards, remain a mystery.

Frances Brown described filming the sequence as a thrill. "It was so exciting!" she said. "It's not every day at work that someone brings out a real weapon, with a professional gun handler on set to show you how to use it safely. When I read the script, I knew it could truly be anyone getting shot."

The actor explained that her character's behaviour began as a way to "make herself feel a bit better" before spiralling out of her control. She said playing someone with a "dark, sinister edge" was "a lot of fun", adding: "I don't get to do much of that in real life, or so I'd hope!"

Despite Jodie's manipulative streak, Frances Brown stressed that she "genuinely does care" about Lily Platt, relating to her "innocence and childlike qualities" because Jodie has never really grown up herself. "When Jodie feels genuine love from someone, she'll go to extreme lengths to protect them," she said.
