Keanu Reeves in Talks to Star in James Wan’s ‘The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil’ (Exclusive)
Keanu Reeves is in negotiations to star in The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, Paramount Pictures’ reimagining of the 2019 Korean movie.
Reeves will join Don Lee, also known as Ma Dong-seok, on the call sheet. Lee was one of the stars of the original movie and is reprising his role for this new iteration.
The project is the next directorial effort from James Wan, who hasn’t helmed a feature since 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Wan is also producing via his Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner. Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear will also produce.
The roster of producers also includes Lee, who is producing via Big Punch Global, Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller via Balboa Productions, as well as Chris Lee of B&C Group, and Jang Won-seok, CEO of BA Entertainment. If that wasn’t enough in the pot, Lorenzo di Bonaventura has also come on board to produce.
Initially premiering at the Midnight Screening at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil tells of a police officer and a crime boss who reluctantly team-up to track down a serial killer. With each having their own motives to capture the killer, double-crosses and cat-and-mouse games ensue, along with a heaping helping of police versus criminals and gang versus gang action.
Eric Pearson (Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps) wrote the latest script, based on previous drafts by Shay Hatten (Resident Evil) and Brian Helgeland A Knight’s Tale, L.A. Confidential).
Reeves last starred in AppleTV’s Jonah Hill-directed dramedy Outcome that debuted in April. He is lending his voice to the fan-favorite character Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which Paramount is releasing March 19, 2027.
