Ejercito checks on major Metro Manila railway projects

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. JV Ejercito visited on Thursday the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Valenzuela Depot and Metro Manila Subway System project site with Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, along with representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Embassy of Japan, and project contractors, to inspect the progress of the country’s major railway projects.

Ejercito was accompanied by his uncle, Fernando Reyes, whom he credits for inspiring his fascination with trains. He recalled how, during their visits to the United States when he was younger, they would watch and marvel at the long cargo trains passing by.

Ejercito said he wanted to personally see the progress ahead of the Senate budget deliberations and ensure that funding remains on track to prevent further delays.

“I want to make sure the funding will not be disrupted anymore, so that there would be no more delays, so that as soon as possible we will see the NSCR and the Metro Manila Subway project to be already operational so that our countrymen can use them,” he said.

The NSCR is expected to begin partial operations from Valenzuela to Malolos by December 2027, with full operations targeted by 2033.

Meanwhile, the entire Metro Manila Subway System is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2031, with operations expected to begin the following year. /atm
