There is some romance between Punjab FC and late goals. In the seven points it has earned in the Indian Super League (ISL) this season, five have come from goals scored in the 90th minute or later.
The trend continued against Churchill Brothers on Sunday as Konsam Sanathoi Singh’s stoppage-time goal earned Punjab a 3-2 win at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.
Raphael Messi Bouli had earlier opened the scoring, converting from the spot for Punjab FC, while his deflection was guided into the net by Alfred Moya Planas for their second. But Gutiérrez, playing in his second stint at Churchill Brothers, equalised both the times.
But Punjab’s super-sub Sanathoi came off the bench to pull the contest away with a clinical finish, receiving a pass from Messi Bouli and expertly slotting it past Sayad Kadir.
