Warner Bros. is officially done with this fantasy sequel.

Warner Bros. has been making headlines for the last few months, and not all of it has been a positive experience. As of today (October 6), Paramount has officially merged with Warner Bros. Discovery to create Skydance. After a difficult opening weekend for Tom Cruise's divisive new movie Digger, it seems that Warner Bros.' final movies at the box office are preparing their goodbyes to the iconic Hollywood company. However, a popular fantasy franchise is now being removed from thousands of theaters in a shocking announcement.

Question 1 of 3

Unfortunately, a beloved cult classic is waving goodbye to theaters ahead of its digital release on October 13. Practical Magic 2, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, is officially leaving theaters after its release on September 11. Nearly a month into its worldwide run, Practical Magic 2 screenings are slowly winding down as the divisive return to the fantasy romance delivers another underwhelming box office run.

Practical Magic 2 has been seriously divisive, especially between critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics gave a rating of 26%, while audiences had the opposite reaction and gave a near-perfect score of 91%. ScreenRant's Liz Declan stated, "What ensues is a plot that, in theory, explores questions of identity, family, self-actualization, and love, but in practice often leaves audiences perplexed or trying to stifle bouts of laughter so as not to disturb other theater-goers."

However, audiences had an entirely different reaction, with reviews stating, "Fantastic! The first one is obviously the best, but I think this was a great extension of that film and I experienced laughter and tears throughout," and "Loved this film! This is the second time I’ve seen it because I wanted another chance to see it on the big screen. They capture all the magic that made the first one so addictive, but they added even more whimsy and depth."

Practical Magic 2 has grossed an estimated $100 million worldwide as of early October, which is a huge disappointment compared to its reported production budget of $75 million. It managed to topple the leading movie at the box office, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but failed to maintain its early success. It's clear that, due to the underwhelming response, Warner Bros. is focused on the movie's digital release, which is almost guaranteed to bring more success to the fantastical franchise.

Practical Magic 2 is available digitally on October 13.
