KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — Bersama leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has confirmed that he is one of the two individuals involved in an incident with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) in Petaling Jaya on Thursday.

In a statement addressing the incident, Nik Nazmi admitted his fault and confirmed that he was the man caught with a woman, who is not his muhrim (a legally permissible close relative), in an enclosed space.

The statement was issued publicly by Nik Nazmi in response to reports regarding the Jais operation.

“I admit that it is a mistake,” he said.

Nik Nazmi explained that he and his colleagues began a discussion at their studio in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, and later decided to continue the meeting in Petaling Jaya to review materials related to a project.

He stated that when the Jais officers arrived, only he and the woman were present.

However, he stressed that they did not commit any indecent acts that would arouse suspicion, noting that he had also informed the Jais officer of this at the time.

Nik Nazmi publicly apologised to his wife, family, and all those affected by his lapse in judgment during the incident.

He also apologised to Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) for disappointing its members and supporters, acknowledging that the issue has damaged the party.

“I will give my cooperation to any legal process,” he said.

Nik Nazmi added that he would accept any decision made by the party and urged all parties to respect the legal process and refrain from prolonging discussions through the media.
