Final Fantasy 6 is officially returning in November 2026 as part of the upcoming celebrations around the franchise’s 40th anniversary, but likely not in the way you had thought or hoped for. While we have no new core release in sight, Square Enix is working on the release of Final Fantasy Resonance, a new spin-off game based around the story and gameplay from Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, now adapted and packaged in a premium skin. The game will feature several heroes from other titles, including Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud Strife and Final Fantasy 6’s Terra Branford.

Nevertheless, some of the fans’ favorite entries in the series will be highlighted in a new release planned to arrive in November. As seen in a new report by Siliconera, Square Enix will release a new Final Fantasy calendar for 2027, though the release itself will happen on November 19 this year. As shared by the outlet, for now, the product can only be purchased via pre-orders in Japan for ¥ 4,950 yen. The exclusive calendar is part of the upcoming celebrations for the 40th anniversary, which happens in 2027.

With a standard A4 size, the Final Fantasy Series 40th Anniversary 2027 Calendar depicts some of the best games in the Final Fantasy franchise. For now, only the artwork for the first quarter of 2027 has been revealed. For the month of January, expect a Final Fantasy 6 comeback, as Terra Branford takes the spotlight as she jumps out of a Magitek Armor with her sword in her hand. A fun fact here is that Terra’s hair is blonde rather than green, meaning it’s a reference to her original concept art by Yoshitaka Amano rather than her in-game sprite.

For the month of February, the artwork is centered around Squall Leonhart and Seifer Almasy, as well as their respective gunblades. The March 2027 artwork then features Aerith and Tifa from Final Fantasy 7, as they stand in a field of flowers. Aerith carries a basket full of them, as if they were collecting the flowers together. The artwork for the other months of 2027 has not been revealed, but it will certainly revolve around the protagonists of other core games in the series.

The special celebratory calendar can only be purchased via the Square Enix E-store in Japan, at least for now. There have been no announcements for a release in other markets, but given the fact that the calendar is fully in English, there is a chance the product will make it to the Western markets soon. As highlighted by Siliconera, you can use this calendar on a desk or hang it on a wall, showcasing your favorite Final Fantasy characters the way you prefer.

This new 2027 calendar is one of the first 40th anniversary items to be announced, and it is happening now because of what it is. However, fans of the series can expect a lot more products coming next year, as the franchise officially celebrates its 40th anniversary. We’re all still hoping for a remake of Final Fantasy 6, but while that doesn’t happen, new goodies that put Terra and her friends in the spotlight keep us satisfied.
