The Chicks Celebrate Democrats’ Historic ‘Blunami’ Midterm Election Victory With Two-Word Message to President: ‘F–k Trump’

The Chicks were doing a happy dance on Tuesday night (Nov. 3) during their show at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles as the midterm election results began to trickle in. The Texas-bred country trio, who have often been at odds with the Trump administration — including calling the former reality TV star a “deranged nut job” at a show earlier this year — celebrated the loud, widespread rebuke of Trump’s chaotic second term with a short, sharp, two-word message emblazoned on large red folding hand fans they held up with pride during the gig.

“F–k Trump” they read, according to a picture posted by the group on their Story. “Well, hello Los Angeles. Welcome to our blunami night,” lead singer Natalie Maines said during the show as the trio fanned their faces with the profane message, according to The Independent. “So glad we can enjoy this night together. Texas is blue, The Senate is blue. The House is blue. This was gonna be a very different night if that wasn’t the case. Welcome to the 20th anniversary of Taking the Long Way.”

The fans, and comments about the blue wave, came on a night when American voters sent a loud and clear message to Washington, rebuking the first two years of Trump’s second term. Voters seem to sour on the Republican administration after being roiled by seesaw, price-spiking tariffs, a deadly, widespread immigration crackdown, a war of choice with Iran that has led to massive increases in the price of gasoline and diesel and an affordability crisis Trump has deemed a “hoax” as he seems more focused on erecting gold-leaf monuments to himself across D.C.

The news was especially exciting for The Chicks — which also includes singer/multi-instrumentalists Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer — because their home state elected James Talarico as the first Democrat to win a Senate seat in the deep red state since 1994. Talarico easily best Trump’s preferred candidate, scandal-plagued state Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The blue wave resulted in seven Senate seats flipping, securing a majority for Democrats in the upper house, as well as a massive win in House races, with Democrats slated to take over both chambers on Congress in the new year. The solid majority in the House — which stood at 228 to 139 in Democrats’ favor at press time, with NBC predicting a potential 255-seat majority — is seen by many pundits as a referendum on Trump’s many unpopular policies, one that could lead to a swarm of investigations into the administration and the Trump family’s massive wealth gains over the past 18 months.
