'Jailer 2' budget and Rajinikanth’s salary revealed; Here’s how much the Superstar may earn for his reunion with Nelson

Rajinikanth’s 'Jailer 2' is among the most anticipated Tamil films of 2026, with expectations running high after the success of the first instalment. Director Nelson Dilipkumar is returning with a bigger cast, Anirudh Ravichander’s music, and Sun Pictures backing the project.

Despite the presence of several leading actors, reports suggest that the sequel has been made without pushing its production cost to the levels seen in some other big-budget Indian films.

The reported budget and Rajinikanth’s remuneration have now become talking points among fans eager to know the scale of the upcoming entertainer.

'Jailer 2' estimated production cost revealed

According to a report by Filmibeat, 'Jailer 2' is reportedly being made on a budget of around Rs 240 crore to Rs 300 crore, including the salaries of its leading actors.

The film’s production cost is said to have been kept under control, with reports suggesting that the actual making expenses were below Rs 100 crore. The approach is being compared with the first Jailer, which was reportedly made on a budget of around Rs 200 crore and went on to collect more than Rs 600 crore worldwide.

The sequel also features a multi-star cast, including Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vijay Sethupathi. However, the reported figures have not been officially confirmed by the makers.

Superstar Rajinikanth may earn Rs 180 crore with profits

The same report states that Rajinikanth has reportedly been offered a remuneration of Rs 110 crore for 'Jailer 2.' Apart from this amount, the superstar is said to have a share in the film’s profits. If the sequel performs exceptionally well at the box office, his total earnings from the project could reportedly reach around Rs 180 crore. These figures remain unconfirmed, and the final amount would depend on the film’s commercial performance and the terms of his agreement.

The reported deal highlights Rajinikanth’s strong market value, particularly when a successful franchise returns with expectations of another major box-office run.

'Jailer 2' release expectations

With Nelson back at the helm and Anirudh composing the music, 'Jailer 2' carries the responsibility of matching the first film’s mix of action, humour and star appearances. The sequel’s reported budget also puts the spotlight on how effectively it can turn its theatrical business into profits. Fans will be watching closely to see whether Nelson can deliver another crowd-pleasing entertainer led by Rajinikanth.

Ultimately, the film’s success will depend not just on its star power or reported production cost, but on whether it gives audiences a memorable return for Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
