KUANTAN, Aug 22 — A teacher and her son were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and plunged into a ravine at KM149.9 of Jalan Kuantan-Seremban near Rompin yesterday.

Rompin police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the accident, which occurred at about 9.30 pm, claimed the lives of Kartinie Ngatenan, 46, and her six-year-old son Muhammad Akif Mohd Azmi at the scene.

He said preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the multipurpose vehicle (MPV), driven by the victim’s 47-year-old husband, was travelling from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, towards Felda Keratong in Rompin.

“When they reached the scene, the vehicle carrying the family is believed to have hit a piece of wood on the road, causing the driver to lose control before skidding and plunging into a ravine on the right side of the road,” he said in a statement today.

He said the accident left the driver with head injuries, and he was treated at Muadzam Shah Hospital, while his wife and son, who also sustained head injuries, died at the scene.

Sharif Shai said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
