Comelec: Voter turnout in 1st BARMM parliamentary polls reaches 98.60%

The voter turnout in the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) reached 98.60%, according to the latest partial and unofficial results.

As of 1:59 p.m. on Tuesday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) media server showed a 98.60% voter turnout, with four regional parliamentary political parties (RPPPs) garnering more than the 2.5% vote threshold.

The RPPPs had the following vote counts:

• Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) – 660,392 (35.1%)
• United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) – 609,538 (32.4%)
• BARMM Grand Coalition (BGC) – 386,398 (20.6%)
• Raayat Democratic Party-Bangsamoro People's Democratic Party – 67,816 (3.6%)

Commission on Elections chairman George Erwin Garcia earlier underscored the resolve of voters in the region to cast their ballots, noting that voter turnout had reached 80% at the time.

"Masaya naman tayo dun sa resulta na 80% voter's turnout more or less ang naging resulta nito," Garcia told Super Radyo dzBB.

(We're happy with the more or less 80% voter turnout in the BARMM parliamentary elections.)

"Kahit na may ilang karahasan, hindi nagpatinag ang mga kababayan natin sa Bangsamoro. Kahit na may nagkaroon ng putukan, talagang pagkatapos na dumiretso pa rin sila sa presinto at bumoto," he added.

(Despite some incidents of violence, our countrymen in the Bangsamoro remained steadfast. Despite the shootings, voters still proceeded to the polling precincts and cast their ballots.)

The Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) on Monday said there were 16 election-related incidents during the BARMM elections, including shooting, trapping and explosion incidents.— MCG, GMA News
