KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has welcomed Budget 2027 measures to strengthen the national grid, expand consumer protection and accelerate Malaysia’s energy transition.

The utility said the government’s move to extend electricity bill protection for households consuming up to 800 kilowatt hours a month until December 31, 2026 would benefit more than eight million domestic users, or 90 per cent of consumers.

TNB also highlighted RM15 billion in new spending to reinforce the national grid, part of its RM43 billion investment plan from 2025 to 2027. The company said the upgrades would ensure supply security and support growing demand, including from large scale data centres.

Other initiatives include installing solar streetlights in villages, rooftop panels at welfare homes and places of worship, and improving electricity access at tahfiz schools and Orang Asli settlements.

TNB added it would continue supporting Bumiputera vendors through its development programme, which has channelled RM11 billion to more than 1,200 businesses as of June 2026.
