Indonesia seek deeper industrial, tech ties with Tatarstan

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is seeking to expand investment and industrial cooperation with Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan to reinforce its manufacturing, automotive, shipbuilding, petrochemical, and digital technology sectors, officials said Saturday.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met Friday in Jakarta with the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, to discuss driving foreign direct investment, technology transfer, and industrial capacity building.
"Indonesia sees great potential to strengthen economic cooperation with Tatarstan, particularly through increased investment, industrial development, and technology utilization," Hartarto said in a statement.
A key priority includes shipbuilding collaboration, supported by interest from Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation in partnering with Indonesian firms to boost domestic vessel production capacity.
Hartarto urged Tatarstan companies to invest in Indonesia’s 25 Special Economic Zones (SEZs), which have drawn 382.1 trillion rupiah ($21.1 billion) in investment through September 2026.
In the technology sector, the two sides outlined potential partnerships between Tatarstan's Innopolis SEZ and Indonesia's Nongsa Digital Park targeting artificial intelligence and digital workforce development.
Minnikhanov affirmed Tatarstan's commitment to advancing commercial ties and formally invited Indonesia to serve as the guest of honor at the 18th Russia–Islamic World: Kazan Forum in May 2027.
Both nations plan to include progress on these joint ventures in the agenda for the 15th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission Meeting in 2027.
