With the very first Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, set to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, you would think that it was an exciting time for fans. However, with the franchise taking a bit of a hit in recent years with multiple canceled projects, underperforming movies, such as The Mandalorian and Grogu, and newly released books, video games, and comics also leaving a lot to be desired, we are going to have to get a hard hitter, and soon.

Luckily, there is one big release to look forward to in the new year, which is set to launch following the release of the next movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, in May 2027.

Courtesy of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise, Star Wars is about to make a crash landing with the Season of Rebellion collaboration. It may not be the first TTRPG experience set in the Star Wars universe, but it definitely sounds as though it will stand up against the greats, as players can take on the role of the main group, Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie, and, as such, we can expect the storyline to take place during the events of the Original Trilogy. Does this mean Darth Vader will also make an appearance?

At the time of writing, there is no official release date for Season of Rebellion for Dungeons & Dragons, but courtesy of the TTRPG's 2027 roadmap, we know that it will definitely be arriving some time in the new year, albeit in the latter half.

With the Dungeons & Dragons universe kickstarting a brand-new era of gaming, it is not just Star Wars that will be receiving the collaboration treatment as, this November, it will be bringing another epic IP into the fray and yes, it is none other than World of Warcraft, but that is a story for a different day.

Dungeons and Dragons Star Wars reveal

For now, we can only speculate on what the Star Wars x Dungeons & Dragons collaboration may entail, but we can safely assume that it will introduce classes, species, backgrounds, and creatures commonly found in the Star Wars universe, yet with the common D&D ruleset we all know and love. It may also launch alongside an accompanying adventure or source book to help expand the universe even further and to help the DM get a lay of the land. However, with this collaboration still a year away from launch, we are likely to receive more concrete information over the next few months.

If the idea of diving into a Star Wars-inspired TTRPG has filled you with excitement, you will be pleased to hear that Star Wars: Edge of the Empire will definitely keep you occupied in the meantime. Available now, it offers everything you may expect from a TTRPG experience, and most importantly, you will not have to wait over a year to play.

Who knows? Hopefully, this Star Wars x Dungeons & Dragons collaboration may give the Star Wars franchise that much-needed spark of inspiration going forward, so that fans may look forward to another fifty years of the beloved saga.
