Man City CEO says sorting probe will take much more time

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano told a gathering of European football heads that sorting out the investigation into the club’s financial dealings will take much more time.

The case “has taken eight years to get here,” Soriano said Monday at a European Club Association board meeting in Copenhagen. “It’s going to take a lot more time.”

Last week, Bloomberg reported that Manchester City had been found by an independent panel to have committed more than 100 breaches of Premier League rules.

The allegations date back to 2009 and have been under investigation since late last decade. Punishments could include a points deduction in the standings, a fine, or even expulsion from the Premier League.

Manchester City is going to appeal the panel’s decisions, a person familiar with situation said on Friday. The club also said in a statement last week that the “Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.”
