Inside Adnan's penthouse with silver antiques, music records, collectibles worth Rs 20-40 crore

Farah Khan recently got a glimpse into Adnan Sami’s luxurious penthouse in Lokhandwala, Mumbai, and the singer-composer’s home turned out to be much more than an elegant residence. Packed with rare antiques, original music records, manuscripts and collectibles sourced from across the world, the space reflects Adnan’s deep connection with music, art and history.Designed predominantly in off-white tones, the sprawling home features a music studio, home theatre, prayer area, office and several spaces for entertaining guests. The entrance leads to a striking photo collage of Adnan and his wife, Roya Faryabi, before opening into the large living room.The living room is divided into several sections, including a dining space, a music corner and a seating area. Farah’s home tour began with a compact music section created for intimate gatherings, with a piano occupying the centre.

Across from it stood an off-white dining table, while the adjoining wall displayed framed original records, silver collectibles and other artefacts.Impressed by the interiors, Farah said, “Adnan, your house is beautiful.” But it was the collection of silver crockery that immediately caught her eye.“Is this all real silver?” a surprised Farah asked.“Yes. It is from all over the world. My parents were diplomats, so we lived in different parts of the world,” Adnan replied.

Taking in the surroundings, Farah added, “This house does look like an embassy house.”One of the most striking sections of the home is a wall covered with original records of some of the most iconic Hindi films, including ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, ‘Aradhana’, ‘Pakeezah’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Sholay’ and ‘Baiju Bawra’.Adnan revealed that the records were not merely decorative pieces but had a personal connection to his journey as a musician.“I have not randomly put them on the wall. These are the records which I heard since childhood. They played a part in my musical life and career,” he said.Among the prized possessions is an original record from ‘Alam Ara’, widely recognised as India’s first talkie. Pointing it out, Adnan said, “Alam Ara was the first talkie film. This is an original record.”His musical memorabilia extends beyond Indian cinema, with the penthouse also housing records associated with international icons such as The Beatles and Elvis Presley.Explaining how he acquired them, Adnan said, “I got these from an auction. These were their gold records that they received and were given for an auction. And I bought them.”The collection becomes even more extraordinary with Adnan’s original manuscripts, including pieces that are extremely rare and historically significant.Farah was left stunned when she spotted what appeared to be an original manuscript of Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’.“It can’t be. Guys, this is an original manuscript of Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven,” she exclaimed.Beethoven, who lived from 1770 to 1827, was one of the most influential composers, pianists and conductors in Western classical music and composed the celebrated piece.Still trying to establish whether the manuscript was genuine, Farah asked, “It is a print of the original script, right?”“No, it is an original,” Adnan clarified.“I think this one will be worth millions…” Farah said.“It was worth a lot,” Adnan replied.Manuscript leaves and movement autographs associated with Beethoven have fetched around USD 2 million to nearly USD 4 million at auctions, translating to approximately Rs 20 crore to Rs 40 crore. Such originals are generally regarded as extremely rare and, in many cases, priceless.The penthouse also has a dedicated memory wall documenting different chapters of Adnan’s career. It features photographs with actors, snapshots from his performances and a picture from the occasion when he was honoured with the Padma Shri.During the tour, Farah also brought up Adnan’s much-talked-about dinner parties, offering another glimpse into the singer’s life beyond his music and remarkable collection.
