Reza Adib’s bail altered for Gold Coast rape charges
Prominent surgeon and ex-partner of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Dr Reza Adib, has had his bail altered as he fights allegations he raped a woman at his Gold Coast apartment earlier this year.
At the time, Adib was the long-term partner of Palaszczuk, who was launching a book about her political career at the time of his arrest.
The three-term Labor premier is not accused of any wrongdoing, and Adib has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
According to court documents, Adib allegedly detained the woman, who was in her 30s, at his apartment and unlawfully deprived her of her personal liberty on March 30.
His sexual assault charge states he allegedly “unlawfully and indecently assaulted [the woman] and the indecent assault included bringing into contact part of [the woman’s] genitalia with the mouth of Adib.”
Police raided his Burleigh Heads apartment on April 30.
On Thursday, Adib successfully had his bail altered to allow him to hold mediation sessions with an individual who the court did not name.
His bail had previously not allowed him to have any contact with the alleged victim.
Court documents showed a conference had been scheduled with the alleged victim to discuss an alternative resolution on October 8, after Adib’s lawyers applied for it to be considered through the court.
The matter will return to the Southport Magistrates court for a mention on January 19.
