Asian Games 2026: Tajinderpal Singh Toor wins shot put silver after back-to-back gold medals

The 31-year-old’s bid for a third consecutive Asian Games title ended with silver as Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebi broke his Games record.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor’s bid for a hat-trick of Asian Games men’s shot put titles ended with a silver medal at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 on Saturday.
The two-time defending champion opened with 20.06m and improved to 20.26m on his second attempt before eventually climbing into the silver-medal position.

Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebi took gold after producing a Games record of 20.81m, surpassing Toor’s previous mark of 20.75m, which the Indian had set while winning his first Asian Games title at Jakarta 2018.
Toor had successfully defended the crown at Hangzhou, winning the 2022 Asian Games edition with a best throw of 20.36m.
Saturday’s silver gave Toor a medal at a third successive Asian Games. The 31-year-old also holds the Indian national record of 21.77m, set in Bhubaneswar in June 2023.
