Daniil Medvedev survived a massive scare against Cameron Norrie to reach the Vienna Open quarterfinal on Thursday.
The Russian came from behind to beat the British tennis player, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) in the round of 16. The match proved frustrating for Medvedev, which he openly showed by punching and slapping the court.
In the first set, Norrie broke Medvedev’s serve to take a 3-1 lead and looked comfortable for the rest of the set. While in the second set, the world No. 5 looked more comfortable as he broke Norrie’s serve to take a 3-0 lead and held his own serve.

The third set provided all the drama, as both of them broke each other’s serves twice to go to a tiebreak, including Medvedev saving a match point at 4-5 (30-40). In the tiebreak, however, he showed his class and won 7-1.
He faces Adrian Mannarino, the French qualifier, in the next round.
The Russian has reached his 100th tour quarterfinal, winning six matches in a row and looking to end the season on a high.
