ALOR SETAR, Nov 3 — The Kedah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a policeman suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes totalling about RM15,000 from a drug trafficker two years ago.

A MACC source said yesterday that the suspect is believed to have accepted bribes as an inducement to protect drug trafficking activities and prevent law enforcement action in the state.

According to the source, the suspect in his 30s was detained around 2 pm yesterday when he arrived to give his statement at the Kedah MACC office.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have committed the acts throughout 2024,” the source said.

The source added that the suspect is believed to have received monthly bribe payments between RM200 and RM2,500 via online bank transfers into his personal account.
