Cheesecake to parenthood: Who is Matthew Booth’s baby mama?

Former Bafana Bafana footballer Matthew Booth and his partner, Bongani Mthombeni, are epecting their first child together.

The relationship first made headlines in 2022, when Matthew’s then-wife, Sonia, accused them of having an affair in a social media expose, dubbed the “cheesecake scandal”.

Matthew and Bongani, who were both married, denied the allegations. They went public with their romance in late 2023.

On social media,, Matthew Booth and Bongani Mthombeni have posted their pregnancy announcement.

“Tiny kicks are officially on the way”, Bongani shared of a picture of three pairs of sneakers, one of them belonging to a baby.

In another, Bongani shared a look at her growing baby bump during a couple’s workout with Matthew. She posted another on her IG Stories.

Their first child together will be the fifth in their blended family, as both Bongani and Matthew have two children from their previous marriages.

She is the director of Royal Haskoning DHV, a project management consultancy firm with headquarters in The Netherlands. The company also has links with the Department of Transport, particularly in the Western Cape.

Her work focuses on transport and infrastructure development, including road, rail, maritime transport, sustainable mobility and large infrastructure projects.
