Ekwunife, others welcome Nnabuife into APC

Delegation of APC leaders to welcome Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency

The All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Senator Uche Ekwunife, on Tuesday led a delegation of APC leaders to welcome Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, following her formal defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance to the APC.

Nnabuife announced her decision to join the APC on the floor of the House of Representatives in Abuja, marking a significant development in the evolving political landscape of Anambra State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the event, Senator Uche Ekwunife, who is the Director of Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring, South-East Zone, of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, described Nnabuife’s decision to join the party as timely.

Ekwunife said, “There couldn’t have been a better time for her to join the APC.”

She acknowledged Nnabuife’s grassroots followership and political support base, expressing confidence that these would contribute significantly to the party’s electoral prospects in Anambra State.

Ekwunife further extended a hand of friendship and collaboration to the federal lawmaker, emphasising the need to work together towards securing victory for the APC at all levels in Anambra State in the 2027 general elections.

The delegation comprised Emeka Okafor, Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC and member of the party’s National Working Committee; Dr Stella Odife, former Deputy Governor of Anambra State; Paul Obu, Deputy Minority Whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly and APC candidate for Orumba North and South Federal Constituency; and Chief Basil Ejidike, former APC Chairman in Anambra State.

Also on the delegation was Dr Chidi Chidebe, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State, now a member of the APC and Director-General of the Senator Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.

Nnabuife’s defection comes amid growing political consultations, engagements and realignments across Anambra State as political stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation was received by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who admitted the team into the House Chamber to observe plenary proceedings and witness Nnabuife’s formal declaration of her defection from APGA to the APC.

In a notable moment during the proceedings, Speaker Abbas paid glowing tribute to Senator Ekwunife, fondly known as “Iyom”, recalling their years of service together in the House of Representatives before her subsequent election to the Senate.

He acknowledged their longstanding relationship and shared legislative experience, underscoring the enduring bonds forged through years of public service and legislative engagement.
