Yo Yo Honey Singh seeks more time from Maharashtra Cyber after skipping questioning over alleged objectionable remarks at a concert

Rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, has asked Maharashtra Cyber for more time to appear before the investigating officer. He did not turn up for questioning on Monday in a case linked to alleged objectionable remarks made at a concert.

Why did Maharashtra Cyber summon Honey Singh

According to the ANI report, Maharashtra Cyber had asked the singer to appear before officials after a complaint was filed against him. The complainant approached the authorities over remarks made by the rapper during a performance, following which a summons was issued for his questioning.Honey Singh did not appear before the investigating officials as directed. The matter remains under investigation, and further details are yet to be received.

Delhi High Court case over the song 'Volume 1'

This is not the first time the singer has landed in a controversy. In May, the Delhi High Court directed him to file an affidavit after an organisation, Hindu Shakti Dal, moved a petition. It alleged that he sang an objectionable song during his performance at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in 2025.On April 2, the court directed the Central Government to take down the URLs of the song 'Volume 1' from all social media and sharing platforms.

The court said the song is obscene, vulgar and derogatory towards women and cannot be allowed in the name of artistic freedom and freedom of speech and expression. The petitioner said the song was released in 2006 by Honey Singh and Badshah. During the hearing, the bench said it treated women as sex objects.

What the petitioner's lawyer argued

Advocate Rupali Panwar argued that the song is vulgar and available on social media platforms. She said it can be accessed even by young children, which is harmful for them. To protect them, she asked that the song be removed immediately from all social media platforms, YouTube and sharing platforms. It was also submitted that Honey Singh sang two lines from the song at a public concert at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on March 1, 2025.
