NT man caught driving 100km/h over speed limit

Translate

Northern Territory Police have charged a man with a string of traffic offences after he was allegedly caught driving at more than 100km/h over the limit with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.153.

An NT Police spokesperson said officers spotted the man driving at 182km/h in an 80km/h zone on Elrundie Avenue in Moulden, outside Darwin, shortly after 8pm on Saturday.

They said he was taken to the Palmerston police station where he blew more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit for unrestricted drivers and tested positive for "two prohibited drugs".

The man has been charged with driving at a dangerous speed, high-range drink-driving and drug-driving and was bailed to face the Darwin Local Court on October 20.

"This irresponsible and dangerous behaviour behind the wheel could have resulted in the loss of lives on our roads,"

Territory Road Policing officer-in-charge Devrim Kanyilmaz said.

"Driving at such an excessive speed is reckless and shows a clear lack of consideration for the safety of others and themselves which is put at risk by this type of behaviour.

"I want to thank the Territory Road Policing team for their intervention that quite possibly saved lives."
