Marcos turns over 333 homes to flood-hit Valenzuela City families

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday led the ceremonial turnover of 333 housing units at Disiplina Village in Arkong Bato, Valenzuela City, for residents relocated from flood-prone areas.

The Disiplina Village Arkong Bato project was designed to provide 960 housing units for qualified informal settler families affected by the Supreme Court’s mandamus to clear Manila Bay, as well as those residing in danger zones in Valenzuela City.

Nine buildings have been completed under Phases 1, 2, and 3, comprising 333 units. The relocation of beneficiaries began in April.

“Ito ay pinagsamahan, pinagkaisahan ng national government at local government para mabuo ito at makita naman ninyo kapag lahat ay sabay-sabay na ginagawa, ang trabaho ng pamahalaan ay nakikita natin maraming magagandang resulta,” Marcos told reporters in a brief statement.

Marcos said housing relocation is a safety measure for families living in flood-prone areas.

“Sa tuwing may ganitong panganib, tahanan ang una nating inaasahang masisilungan. Dito dapat ligtas ang ating mga anak. Dito dapat tayo nakakapagpahinga nang walang pangamba,” he said.

(Whenever such dangers arise, our homes are the first places where we expect to find shelter. Our children should be safe here. This should be a place where we can rest without fear or worry.)

“Ngunit para sa maraming pamilyang nakatira sa danger zone, ang tahanan mismo ang nalalagay sa panganib. Sa tuwing masama ang panahon, nag-aalala sila para sa kanilang pamilya, kagamitan, at kaligtasan. Kaya mahalagang mabigyan natin ang mga pamilyang ito ng pagkakataong makalipat sa isang komunidad na mas ligtas para sa kanilang mga pamilya,” he continued.

(However, for many families living in danger zones, their homes themselves are at risk. Whenever the weather turns bad, they worry about their families, belongings, and safety. That is why it is important to give these families the opportunity to move to a safer community for their families.)

Marcos noted that the project is situated near schools and healthcare facilities, making it easier for children to attend school and for families to avail of healthcare services.

He also said the government has delivered nearly 600,000 housing units from July 2022 to July 2026 under various government programs, including the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development’s Expanded 4PH Program, with assistance from the National Housing Authority, Social Housing Finance Corporation, Home Development Mutual Fund, or Pag-IBIG Fund, and National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation. /gsg
