President Prabowo Subianto has awarded the Samkaryanugraha honor to four Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) units in recognition of their successful operations against drug smuggling and armed separatist groups in Papua.

Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali presided over the award ceremony aboard the aircraft carrier KRI Sriwijaya-100 at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on Wednesday, during an event marking the 98th anniversary of Youth Pledge Day.

“The awards were presented to four units, comprising two warships and two Marine battalions,” Ali told reporters after the ceremony.

Ali said President Prabowo had awarded the Samkaryanugraha to KRI Kujang-627 and KRI Kerambit-642 for thwarting a major drug-smuggling attempt in the Malacca Strait in a previous operation.

Meanwhile, the 4th and 10th Marine Infantry Battalions received the honor for capturing separatist outposts and seizing weapons during operations in Papua, he added.

During the ceremony, Ali also presented awards to Navy personnel for their achievements in operational duties, education, intelligence, and sports. The Navy chief expressed hope that the recognition would boost personnel morale and motivate them to maintain high standards in carrying out their duties.

Among those honored for their operational achievements were Head of the Indonesian Navy Legal Service First Admiral Ali Ridlo, Lampung Naval Base Commander Colonel Irianto Kurniawan, Lampung Naval Base Intelligence Officer Major Firman Fitriadi, and First Sergeant Rico Sumantri of the 9th Marine Infantry Battalion..

Several officers were also recognized for their academic achievements, including Colonel Dr. Wawan Kusdiana of the Naval Institute of Technology and Marine Lieutenant Colonel Agus Suprapto of the Naval Academy. Two personnel from the Naval Cyber Center received awards for supporting anti-smuggling operations through surveillance, profiling, and digital forensic analysis.

In addition, 21 Navy personnel were honored for their achievements in various sports, including archery, chess, pencak silat, badminton, shooting, sailing, diving, running, karate, swimming, rowing, taekwondo, volleyball, jet triathlon, athletics, tennis, boxing, and fin swimming.
