KKP, PLN join forces to supply electricity for fishermen's villages

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has partnered with state utility PLN to ensure reliable power for Red and White Fishermen's Villages (KNMP), supporting fisheries facilities and coastal businesses.

The partnership covers electricity supply, digitalization, green ecosystem development, data exchange and capacity building, the ministry said in a press release on Monday (Oct. 26).

Lotharia Latif, the ministry's Director General of Capture Fisheries, and M. Fahrur Rozy, PLN's Director of Retail and Commerce, signed the agreement.

Latif said adequate electricity is expected to support KNMP facilities, including cold storage, an ice factory, a fish auction site and a fishery processing unit.

"Identifying needs from the outset is essential to ensure infrastructure support is well-targeted. Reliable electricity is expected to facilitate activities in the area, from operating fisheries facilities to developing local businesses," Latif said.

Under the deal, his office will provide data on location needs, networks and facilities.
PLN will survey sites with the ministry and support electricity provision in line with applicable regulations.

PLN will also support digitalization and green ecosystem development through its subsidiaries and subholdings.

By 2025, KKP had built 100 KNMPs. In 2026, it plans to expand the program to 1,269 locations under a hub-and-spoke model, in which main activity centers are supported by satellite sites.

Each KNMP features supporting infrastructure, including ice plants, cold storage, fishermen's fuel stations (SPBUN), docks and mooring areas, fish auction facilities, boat repair workshops and supply kiosks.

The program has recorded fish transactions of 719 tons, valued at Rp18.77 billion (about $1 million), across 65 locations in operational trials since early June 2026.

The fish was distributed to domestic markets in several cities, including Jakarta, Kendari, Medan, Surabaya, Bandar Lampung, Ternate and Dompu.
