Apple TV's new 10-part serial killer thriller brings together an unusually stacked cast for a dark new crime story premiering this Friday, October 30. Apple TV is known for its excellent crime thrillers, including acclaimed titles such as Black Bird, Presumed Innocent, and Sugar. This week, the streamer will be adding another notable new entry in the genre that already has one of the best ensemble casts of any current Apple TV original series. Without question, it's one of the best new Apple TV series to watch this weekend.

Nocturne premieres on Apple TV this Friday with its first two highly anticipated episodes. The star-studded series is led by Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Bill Camp (The Night Of), Rory Culkin (Signs), Poorna Jagannathan (Lanterns), Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), and more, instantly making it one of the best ensembles on the platform. With Graham playing a twisted serial killer and Schreiber's detective protagonist tasked with confronting him, Nocturne is absolutely worth checking out this weekend.

Apple TV's New Serial Killer Thriller Has A Seriously Stacked Cast

Nocturne's premise is naturally intriguing, but its remarkably talented cast is the main reason why it's poised to be one of the best new series of the year on Apple TV. The series was created by John Hlavin (Shooter) and is based on two bestselling crime novels, The Sandman (2012) and Lazarus (2018), written by Swedish authors Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril, who are also a married couple. Together, they publish under the pen name Lars Kepler and have written several books in their "Joona Linna" series, which follows a detective superintendent who investigates crimes often connected to serial killers.

While there's no Joona Linna character in Nocturne, there is a Jonah Lynn, played by Schreiber, who is a former U.S. Army Ranger who became a homicide detective in Philadelphia. Seeking a quieter life, Jonah leaves the city and lives in rural Pennsylvania, where several local disappearances capture his attention. The odd thing is that these disappearances resemble certain characteristics of Jurek Walter, played by Graham, a notorious serial killer whom Jonah helped catch and incarcerate. That said, Jurek remains in prison and is seemingly unconnected to the new disappearances, suggesting that Jonah is on the hunt for a copycat killer.

Nocturne Is One Of The Best New Shows To Stream This Weekend

The phenomenal cast of Nocturne already speaks for itself, and early reviews give the series an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score at the time of writing. ScreenRant gave the new serial killer thriller series on Apple 8/10 stars, noting, "Nocturne’s well-written villain and superb performances more than make up for the narrative predictability, and the story still feels pulse-racing even when it's obvious what's coming." Additionally, Collider gave it 7/10 stars, writing, "A deeply engaging and thought-provoking tale is bolstered by a fantastic cast, keeping it afloat when some of the production elements struggle with their identity."

Across all major streaming platforms this weekend, like Netflix, Prime Video, and Paramount+, Nocturne is one of the very best new shows to watch this weekend following its 2-part premiere this Friday. New episodes of Nocturne will be released every Friday exclusively on Apple TV, with its finale set to drop on December 25. Nocturne consists of 10 total episodes, giving viewers a new series that will offer new weekly installments all the way to the end of the year. Because the cast is so strong, expect Nocturne to generate some serious Emmy buzz by the time its finale arrives on Christmas Day.

With its great cast, proven source material, strong Rotten Tomatoes score, and riveting crime thriller narrative, Nocturne is one new series you simply cannot miss this weekend, right up there with Dexter: Resurrection season 2 and The Gilded Age season 4.
