Abdollah Ahmadzai celebrates a wicket, Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe, 2nd T20I, Sharjah, October 29, 2026

Afghanistan have now won seven of the ten ODIs this year  •  Afghanistan Cricket Board

Afghanistan have risen to sixth in the ICC men's ODI team rankings, overtaking Sri Lanka to claim their highest-ever position in the format.

Their latest rise comes on the back of a strong run of results in the 50-over format. Afghanistan beat Ireland 4-0 in an away series in August before going unbeaten in the recently concluded UAE tri-series involving Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

They beat Zimbabwe by seven wickets to clinch the title in Sharjah with Rashid Khan claiming the Player of the Series award with 11 scalps. In the competition, Afghanistan also skittled Bangladesh out for 160 before chasing it down in 35.3 overs.

Afghanistan have won 96 of their 191 ODIs, maintaining an impressive win-loss ratio of 1.09. They had already moved ahead of teams such as Bangladesh, England and West Indies in the rankings, and have now climbed past Sri Lanka as well.

India lead the ODI rankings with New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Australia occupying the next four positions. In T20Is, England are the top-ranked team with India and Australia occupying the second and third spots respectively.
