Selma Blair Set for Bridget Stokes’ Mystical Coming of Age Film ‘Schmoolie The Deathwatcher’

Bridget Stokes and Theresa Burkhart Gallagher’s Schmoolie the Deathwatcher is coming alive.

The project, described as a mystical coming-of-age romp, will be directed by Emmy winning helmer Stokes (A Black Lady Sketch Show) from a script by Gallagher with a cast that includes Selma Blair, Isaac Krasner as the title character, Luenell, Ariel Martin, David Mazouz and Sania Halifa.

Schmoolie the Deathwatcher follows four misfit Jewish teens in Los Angeles against the backdrop of Purim. Blair is on board to play Schmoolie’s aunt. The film is said to be a modern story about kids and adults living with grief and loss, anxiety and fear while struggling with disabilities, sexual identity and navigating the growing pains of getting older — with a supernatural elements. Production is due to start in late February in Los Angeles.

Producing the pic are Starshine Pictures’ Gallagher and Diana C. Zollicoffer with Lindsay Lanzillotta (The Invitation, Purgatory). Sias Wilson at Soft Parade is handling international sales.

Krasner broke out recently with a role in the independent feature Big Boys, which earned him a grand jury prize at Outfest and a Spirit Award nomination for best breakthrough performance. His other credits include Amazon MGM Studios’ Holland opposite Nicole Kidman and Matthew Macfadyen, NBC’s New Amsterdam and Starz’s Power Book III. He has a role in the horror series Crystal Lake on Peacock. Krasner is repped by the Burstein Company and Zuri Agency.

Blair is best known for her work in Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde. She recently starred in the Israel-Hamas war drama Stay Forte and next appears in Ethan Almighty opposite Sean Patrick Flannery, the new S.W.A.T spinoff Exiles and a new season of Criminal Minds: Evolution. She emerged as a disability advocate after revealing a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, and was later honored on lists like Time‘s People of the Year, Glamour’s Women of the Year and British Vogue’s Megastars. Luenell works as a comedian and actress, and currently headlines the Fresh Out of Favors Comedy Tour and has a Las Vegas residency at Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club. Her screen credits include Borat, Coming 2 America, Dolemite Is My Name, A Star Is Born, Hacks, The Last O.G., It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Phat Tuesdays. Her Netflix special Town Business was executive produced by Dave Chappelle. She is repped by Innovative Artists.

Martin, aka Baby Ariel, was featured by Time as one of the most influential people on the internet and was included in Forbes’ 2017 list of top entertainment influencers. She counts north of 10 million followers on Instagram. She has won a Teen Choice Award for “Choice Muser.” Martin also has a role in the Spring Breakers sequel. She’s represented by Avenue Artists Management.

Mazouz has worked as an actor, writer and producer, and been in the business since he was a child. The recent Stanford University graduate is best known for playing Bruce Wayne on Fox’s series Gotham and for Fox’s Touch opposite Kiefer Sutherland. He is repped by Untitled and Paradigm.

Halifa, a French model and actress, made her debut with a lead role in Hawa followed by the French series Le Remplacant. She has been featured in ad campaigns for Fenty and Sephora. She is repped by L’Amepresario.
