Reacher Returns In Less Than One Month With An Entirely New Story

Jack Reacher's next outing is almost here - even though the latest season of the TV adaptation only wrapped up in mid-September. The wildly successful series has now worked its way through adaptations of four Reacher novels, Killing Floor, Bad Luck And Trouble, Persuader, and Gone Tomorrow, with the next season set to adapt the darker, small-town set Make Me.

The series has now produced 30 full-length novels since Killing Floor was released in 1997, along with several novellas and short story collections, making it one of the longest-running and best-selling thriller franchises still actively publishing new material nearly thirty years after its debut. Now, the 31st book is set for release in October, as part of a fuller-than-usual year of Reacher content.

Exit Strategy arrived in hardcover in late 2025 and in paperback in March 2026, alongside season 4 of Reacher, which ran from mid-August to mid-September, and now, a new book release drops October 20th. That pacing keeps the novels landing at a steady clip even as the series approaches its fourth decade, giving longtime readers a new full-length installment roughly once every twelve months, with no signs of the pace slowing.

Chain Reaction, the 31st installment in the Jack Reacher series, is set for release on October 20, 2026, putting the book less than a month away. The novel is co-written by Lee Child and his son, Andrew. Andrew started to co-write with his father in 2020, with an announcement that he would eventually take over the franchise entirely.

The new book follows General Susan Turner, as she reaches out to Reacher after a member of her team is murdered while on a covert assignment. You can read the full description below:

Turner's involvement gives Chain Reaction a stronger tie to the series' existing cast of recurring characters than some recent installments have had. She has appeared in multiple earlier Reacher novels, first introduced as a high-ranking military officer whose path crosses Reacher's during one of his investigations. Her return here puts a character readers already know at the center of the story, rather than following the more common structure of Reacher encountering an entirely new cast of strangers in a town he happens to pass through.

Chain Reaction will run 384 pages and is scheduled for release by Delacorte Press in the United States and Bantam Press in the United Kingdom, with both editions publishing on the same date. The book is currently available for pre-order ahead of its October 20 release.
