Monsoon rain to affect some areas in Luzon Thursday afternoon – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Some areas in Luzon are expected to experience downpour brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 20, the state weather bureau said.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported in a weather advisory at 2 p.m that light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are expected within the next three hours over portions of Tarlac (San Jose, Capas, and Bamban) and Pampanga (Porac, Angeles, and Mabalacat).

Meanwhile, similar weather conditions are affecting Zambales (Botolan, Cabangan, Iba) and may affect nearby areas, according to Pagasa.

The weather bureau earlier said that the southwest monsoon is less likely to bring significant rainfall over the western section of Luzon.

However, scattered rains and thunderstorms may still prevail over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Batanes, Cagayan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan within the next 24 hours. /jpv
