Indonesia prepares eighth trainset to meet rising Commuter Line demand

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (PT KAI) said it is preparing the eighth KRL Commuter Line trainset to address rising passenger demand after passenger volume reached 303.79 million from January to October 2026.

“Throughout January-October 2026, the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line served 303.79 million users, averaging 1 million users per working day,” KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said here on Saturday (November 7).

According to Rasyidin, the large number of users makes the safety, readiness, and reliability of Commuter Line rolling stock highly necessary.

Rasyidin monitored the readiness and reliability of the new Commuter Line set, the eighth trainset from state-owned train manufacturer PT INKA, at the Depok KRL Train Depot in West Java.

Accompanied by the KAI Commuter Technical Director and INKA’s technical team, he ensured the rolling stock is ready to serve Commuter Line users.

“This INKA production has undergone several tests before,” he said.

The final testing is scheduled for mid-November 2026, with the trainset operations for Commuter Line users planned for early December.

Rasyidin said several improvements over the previous version have been made, especially in parts that often had problems.

“INKA has identified improvements through innovation and re-engineering with better techniques and engineering,” he said.

He noted the eighth trainset has a better automatic door system, upgraded from the previous seven trainsets.

The doors underwent 500 test cycles to ensure they functioned properly. The propulsion system and bogie or coil springs are also improved from before.

“The eighth trainset is expected to be far more reliable, durable, and stronger in serving Commuter Line users, whose numbers grow every day,” he added.

Meanwhile, KAI Commuter President Director Purnomo Sidi said the eighth trainset has also undergone internal testing.

“Every process and stage is being carried out to ensure Commuter Line rolling stock is ready to operate safely and reliably,” he said.
