GEORGE TOWN: A man was killed after a landslide struck the rear of a house in Taman Seri Rambai, Paya Terubong, this morning.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 8.36am.

He said three people were involved in the incident, with one man trapped beneath the earth and later confirmed dead.

"The victim was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel at 9.10am, while rescue teams were working to extricate the body from the debris.

"Initial information indicated that two occupants were inside the house, with one managing to escape. However, subsequent updates confirmed that three victims were involved," he said.

Seven firefighters from the Paya Terubong fire and rescue station were deployed, along with a light fire and rescue truck and an emergency medical rescue services vehicle.

The police were also at the scene to assist with the operation, which was still ongoing as of 9.30am.
