JUSAG strike begins to bite as courts shut down in Accra

Translate

The nationwide industrial action declared by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has affected court operations across the country, forcing the closure of several court premises, including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Accra High Court, Circuit Court and some District Courts.

Access to the affected facilities has been restricted, with security officers reportedly directed to keep the gates closed following the commencement of the strike.

In a show of protest, red pieces of cloth have been placed at the entrances of some court premises to highlight the workers’ grievances.

At the Accra High Court, JoyNews' Legal Correspondent, Fatawu Bayaga, reported that several persons were outside the Court as they were denied entry.

The association is demanding the payment of outstanding salary arrears arising from the revised salary structure, which dates back to January 2026.

Amid the disruption, Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed has urged JUSAG to reconsider its decision and suspend the strike to allow negotiations to continue.

He explained that management had engaged relevant government stakeholders in high-level discussions conducted in good faith to find a lasting solution to the concerns raised by the association.

Mr Ahmed also acknowledged the frustration among judicial staff over the delay in implementing the 2026 salary review, assuring them that management was attentive to their concerns.
