Translate

Sepang Umno chief Noorazli Said claimed trial in the magistrates’ court here today to a charge of deliberately wounding the religious feelings of Christians in a speech last month.

Noorazli, 48, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri.

He is charged with deliberately wounding the religious feelings of one Xenia Lok in a speech he delivered at the 2026 Umno general assembly.

The offence allegedly took place at 11.20am on Sept 12 at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre, Jalan Tun Ismail here.

The charge was framed under Section 298 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year, a fine or both, upon conviction.

Noorazli was allowed bail of RM6,000 with one surety.

Deputy public prosecutor Fadhly Zamry had proposed bail of RM15,000 with one surety.

However, Noorazli’s counsel, Hasnal Rezua Merican, requested that bail be set at between RM4,000 and RM5,000.
