SUNU Assurances appoints new director, external auditor

SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc has appointed Michael Chukwu as an Independent Non-Executive Director, while TAC Professional Services has been appointed as the company’s new external auditor.

The insurance company disclosed the changes in separate notices signed by its secretary, Taiwo Kuku, and filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited, on Monday.

Mr Chukwu’s appointment took effect in September 2026, according to the company.

SUNU Assurances described him as a seasoned financial executive, chartered accountant and private equity leader with over four decades of experience spanning banking, taxation, corporate governance and investment management.

Mr Chukwu is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Assetswise Capital Ltd, where he has led private equity investments since 2007.

His public service experience includes serving as Executive Chairman of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Board between 2019 and 2020, where he restructured operations, automated processes and doubled the state’s internally generated revenue within a year.

Mr Chukwu was also the founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Spring Bank Plc between 2005 and 2007, where he led the merger of six banks to form the new institution.

Before then, he served as MD/CEO of Guardian Express Bank between 2001 and 2005 and held senior positions at ACB International Bank, First Atlantic Bank, UBA, FCMB, Citizens International Bank, Fidelity Bank, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

He holds a B.Sc. in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Chartered Institute of Management of Nigeria and the Institute of Directors Nigeria.

Mr Chukwu also has board-level experience across the financial services, research, and technology sectors, including serving as chairman or director at Eartholeum Networks Ltd, ENL-NOVA Ltd, Cowry Asset Management Ltd, and the National Root Crops Research Institute.

TAC Professional Services

Meanwhile, SUNU Assurances also appointed TAC Professional Services as its new external auditor following the retirement of SIAO Partners after eight years of service.

The company said SIAO Partners had served the maximum eight-year tenure stipulated by the National Insurance Commission’s Corporate Governance Guidelines 2021 and retired after completing the audit of the 2025 financial year.

TAC Professional Services’ appointment was ratified by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting held on 21 August.

The insurance company said the new auditor has experience across several sectors, including insurance, financial services, oil and gas, power, manufacturing, real estate, telecommunications, aviation and media.

TAC Professional Services, established in 1999, provides audit and assurance, tax advisory and compliance, financial and business advisory, forensic investigation, accounting and other professional consulting services.

TAC is also a member of Integra International, a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms.

The auditing firm and its partners are registered with and in good standing with relevant professional and regulatory bodies, including the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
