Osimhen, Haaland my favourite strikers – Ideye

Translate

Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has named Victor Osimhen and Erling Haaland among the strikers he enjoys watching, saying modern football is all about scoring goals and winning games.

Ideye spoke in an interview with PUNCH Sports Extra, where he also named the toughest opponents he faced and his favourite player of all time.

“I like the way Osimhen is playing. I like the way a lot of strikers, Haaland, they (Osimhen and Haaland) are good players. Football is all about scoring goals and winning games,” Ideye said.

He added that the game has changed from his playing days.

On the defenders who gave him the most trouble, Ideye picked two Real Madrid legends.

“For me, I would say the defenders, I would say Sergio Ramos and Pepe,” he said.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Dynamo Kyiv forward also named Zlatan Ibrahimović as his favourite player because of the similarities with his own style.

“One of my favourite players that I see, though now he is retired, but I have to go with Ibrahimović because it is similar to how I play,” he said.

Ideye won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and also played for Sochaux and Olympiacos. He retired in August 2025 after a spell at Enyimba, having played 431 matches and scored 155 goals in a career spanning nearly two decades.

Osimhen, who is 27 years old, scored in Galatasaray’s 4-0 win at Konyaspor on October 30. He is now the joint-top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig this season with nine goals alongside compatriot Gift Orban.
